ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Purple crocodile

Okay, so imagine a crocodile, like the one you might see at the zoo or in a picture book. Now imagine that crocodile is purple, like a grape or a lavender flower. That's what we mean by a purple crocodile. Of course, in real life, there are no purple crocodiles – they're usually green or brown or gray – but in our imagination, we can make them any color we want. Sometimes people use the phrase "purple crocodile" to describe something that's really unusual or unexpected, like if you saw a unicorn riding a skateboard or a penguin wearing a top hat. It's a way of saying, "Wow, that's weird!" or "That's something you don't see every day!" So, even though purple crocodiles don't exist in real life, they can be a fun way to let your imagination run wild and think up all kinds of crazy ideas.
