ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Quadric

A quadric is a type of shape that you can make by putting together different numbers, like X and Y, and putting them in a formula. This formula tells you where to find different points on the shape, kind of like a treasure map.

For example, imagine you have a piece of paper and a pen. If you draw a simple shape like a circle, you can give it a formula like x^2 + y^2 = r^2. This formula tells you that if you want to find a point on the circle, you just plug in an X coordinate and a Y coordinate and then see if they match the formula. If they do, that's where the point goes!

A quadric is a little more complicated because it has more numbers in the formula. You might have X squared, Y squared, and X times Y, for example. These different terms in the formula make the quadric look different from other shapes like circles or triangles.

It's kind of like a puzzle where you have to fit different pieces together to make a picture. When you solve the puzzle, you get a beautiful quadric shape that you can use for all sorts of things like designing buildings, creating 3D models, or even studying the universe!
