ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Qualified immunity

Qualified immunity is a legal doctrine that says a government worker, like a police officer, can't be sued if they do something wrong. The doctrine says the worker won't be held responsible if it wasn't clear that the action they took was wrong or illegal. This means that if someone does something that hurts or harms another person, but it wasn't clear that this action was wrong, then the government worker can't be held responsible. The idea behind qualified immunity is that it helps people who work for the government to make decisions without fear of being sued.
