Dear little one,
Quartal and quintal harmony are ways to make music using special groups of notes. These groups of notes are called chords. Chords are made up of many different musical notes all played together to make a special sound.
Quartal harmony is when music is made using groups of notes that are four steps apart from each other. For example, if we start with the note C and count four steps up, we will get the note F. If we count four steps up from F, we will get the note B flat. This is a quartal chord because the notes C, F, and B flat are each four steps apart from one another.
Quintal harmony is similar, but uses groups of notes that are five steps apart from each other. For example, if we start with the note C and count five steps up, we will get the note G. If we count five steps up from G, we will get the note D. This is a quintal chord because the notes C, G, and D are all five steps apart from each other.
These types of chords can be used in all different kinds of music, from classical to jazz to rock and pop. They give the music a unique and interesting sound. So next time you hear a cool sounding chord, maybe it's a quartal or quintal one!
