Quern-stone

Quern-stone is a tool that people used a super long time ago to grind grains like wheat and barley into flour. It's kind of like a really big rock with a special shape that makes it perfect for grinding.

Think about those little toy cars you play with that have wheels at the bottom. When you roll them, they move forward. Quern-stones are kind of like that, except instead of wheels, they have a little rough texture on the outside that helps to crush the grains into flour when you move it in circles like you're drawing a big circle on the ground.

People used to use quern-stones instead of fancy machines to grind up their grains because they didn't have the technology we have today. They were really important because they helped people make food like bread, which was a staple of their diet.

Nowadays, we have all sorts of machines and technology to grind our grains, so we don't really use quern-stones anymore. But they are still important in history because they helped people survive and thrive a super long time ago.
