ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Queuing theory

Queuing Theory is like when you stand in line to get ice cream. The line is like a queue, or waiting line.

Imagine you are standing in front of the ice cream truck and there are ten people in front of you. Everybody wants to eat an ice cream and so everyone is waiting in line for their turn.

Now, let’s say that there's only one ice cream man and he takes about 2 minutes to serve each person. More people keep arriving to get some ice cream from his truck. Sometimes the people in front of you might take longer to decide and that can make you wait a little longer.

Queuing Theory can help us understand how many people can be served in a certain amount of time, how long people have to wait in line, and how many people leave the line because they can’t wait any longer.

It helps us to make decisions about things like how many people can we serve, how many servers do we need, and how long will the people have to wait in line.

So, in conclusion, Queuing Theory helps us understand how long people have to wait, how many people can be served in a certain amount of time, and how to make decisions to improve the queue.
