ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

R v Brown

Okay kiddo, let me explain R v Brown in a way you'll understand!

So, R v Brown is all about a group of people who did some really bad things to each other. These people were grown-ups who liked to hurt each other on purpose. Now, hurting someone else is always wrong, right? But these people said that they liked it and wanted to do it to each other.

The problem was that hurting people is against the law, and the police found out what they were doing. The people who did the hurting were caught and brought to trial.

In court, they argued that what they were doing wasn't really hurting, because they all wanted to do it and they didn't mind if they got hurt. But the judges said that, even if people consent to being hurt or abused, it's still against the law.

So, the court found them guilty, because they hurt each other even though they wanted it. And they got in trouble for breaking the law.

It's important to remember that hurting others, even if they say it's okay, is not okay! And that's why R v Brown is an important case.
