Racism means that somebody thinks that they are better than someone else just because of the color of their skin or the place where they were born. Racism can happen in different ways like saying unkind things to someone or not giving them the same chance or opportunities as others.
Sadly, racism happens in Australia too. In the past, when Australia was first colonized by the British, the Indigenous people were treated really badly. They were even taken away from their families and forced to live in different communities. This made them feel like they were not important and not treated fairly.
Even though it has been a long time since those days, some people in Australia still treat others unfairly because of their race or ethnicity. For example, someone may refuse to sit next to someone on the bus simply because of their skin color or accent. They may also say things that are not nice about another person's culture or religion, without trying to understand them.
This behavior hurts people's feelings and makes them feel isolated or unwelcome. It is important to remember that everyone is equal no matter what their race or nationality is. It is important to treat people with kindness and respect, no matter where they are from or what their background may be. We should celebrate differences, not use them as a reason for discrimination or prejudice.
