ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Radar astronomy

Radar astronomy is like bouncing invisible balls off of space stuff. Scientists use big antennas to send out radio waves that bounce off planets, asteroids, and stars. They listen for the echoes that come back and analyze them to learn all sorts of things about what's out there. It's kind of like how bats send out sound waves and listen for the echoes to know where things are. Just like how you can tell if something is far away or close by how long it takes to hear the echo, scientists can tell how far away space stuff is based on how long it takes for the radio wave echoes to come back. By studying the echoes, scientists can learn all sorts of things like how big a planet is, what it's made of, and even how it's moving. It's a really cool way to explore our universe and all the amazing objects in it!
