ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Radiation protection

Radiation is like invisible ghost particles that can travel through the air, go through walls and even go through your body. Some types of radiation can be dangerous and can hurt you, like if you get too much of it, it can make you sick or cause cancer. That’s why we need to protect ourselves from radiation.

Radiation protection is like wearing a shield that protects us from getting too much radiation. Just like how you wear a helmet to protect your head when you ride a bike, we use special things to protect ourselves from radiation.

One way to protect ourselves is to use special clothing called lead aprons, which doctors and dentists use to protect their bodies when taking x-rays. These aprons are very heavy and save you like thick blankets. They help block radiation and keep you safe.

We also use special machines called Geiger counters, which are like magic wands that can find out if there is radiation in a place. If it beeps, then it means that radiation is nearby, and we need to be careful.

Another way we can protect ourselves is by not getting too close to things that have a lot of radiation, like if we go near the microwave while it’s on, we can get lots of radiation. So, always make sure to stay away from things that can give you lots of radiation.

Lastly, we can protect ourselves by eating healthy and staying active. If your body is healthy, then it can fight off the bad effects of radiation better.

So, to sum it up, radiation protection means using special things to protect ourselves from radiation so that we don't get too much of it, which can be dangerous and make us sick.
