ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Nuclear safety

Nuclear safety is when scientists, engineers and other workers make sure that nuclear energy is used safely. Nuclear energy is energy that comes from the splitting of atoms, and it can be used to create electricity. Nuclear safety is important because if the energy that comes from splitting atoms isn't used the right way it can cause big problems, like explosions or radiation that can hurt people. Scientists, engineers and other workers have to make sure that the nuclear energy is split in a safe way and used safely. They often have to wear special suits and masks to protect them from radiation and have to work in special places so that the nuclear energy can't hurt other people.
