ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rahab

Rahab is a woman in the Bible who was said to have lived a very long time ago. She is important because she helped the Israelites, who were God's chosen people, when they were in a tough spot.

The Israelites were trying to conquer the city of Jericho, and they sent some spies to check out the city. When the spies arrived, they went to Rahab's house to stay there. But someone told the king of Jericho that the spies were there, and he sent soldiers to capture them.

Rahab, however, didn't want to see the spies get caught, because she believed that God was on their side. She hid them on the roof of her house and covered them with some flax. Then, when the soldiers came looking for them, she told them that the spies had already left the city.

After the soldiers left, Rahab went up to the spies and told them why she had helped them. She said that she knew that God was with the Israelites and that she wanted to be on their side too. So she asked them to spare her and her family when they conquered the city.

The spies agreed, and they gave her a scarlet cord to hang from her window so that the Israelites would know which house was hers. When the Israelites attacked Jericho, they spared Rahab and her family, and they even let her join their people.

Rahab is remembered as a brave woman who did the right thing even when it was risky. She took a chance and helped the spies, and because of that, she became part of God's plan for his people.
