ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ratites

Ratites are a group of birds that cannot fly, like ostriches, emus, and kiwis. They have flat breastbones instead of a keeled breastbone that helps birds fly. Ratites are found in different parts of the world and have different characteristics, like the ostrich, which is the largest bird and can run super fast!

Even though ratites cannot fly like other birds, they can still do a lot of things like run, swim, and use their beaks for different things. They eat food like plants, insects, and even small animals, and use their strong legs to kick out predators to protect themselves.

So, ratites are a special kind of bird that cannot fly but still have many unique abilities, and they come in different sizes and can be found in different parts of the world.
