ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Ratu

Okay, so imagine you are playing make-believe and you are the queen. Now, in real life, there are some people who get to be queens for their whole lives and they are called monarchs. In some parts of the world, particularly in the South Pacific, there are also monarchs, but they are called "ratu."

A ratu is like a queen or a king, but instead of ruling over a whole country, they usually only rule over one province or area. They are very respected and important people because they are believed to have been chosen by the gods to lead their people.

Ratus usually have a lot of power and influence in their communities. For example, they might make laws or decisions that everyone in their area has to follow. They might also be responsible for making sure everyone has enough food, water, and shelter.

Being a ratu is a big responsibility, but it is also a huge honor. People in their communities look up to them and respect them because they believe they have been chosen by the gods to lead. So, the next time you're playing make-believe as the queen or king, you can also pretend to be a ratu in the South Pacific!
