ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rear-engine, rear-wheel drive layout

Ok kiddo, you know how cars can be driven from the front or the back? Well, some special cars are made with their engine in the back, instead of the front. And, when the back wheels are the ones doing the moving, we call that rear-wheel drive.

So, imagine you're pushing a toy car on the ground. If you push it from the back, it will move forward, right? But, if you push it from the front, it will move backwards. That's why the rear-engine, rear-wheel drive layout is pretty cool, because it allows the power of the car to be pushing it forward, instead of pulling it from the front.

When a car has a rear-engine, it means that the "heart" of the car, the engine, is located at the back, near the trunk area. This design has some advantages, like making the car more stable and improving its handling. And, when combined with rear-wheel drive, it gives the car better traction and control.

So, to sum it up for you, the rear-engine, rear-wheel drive layout is like having a car with a superpowerful booster engine at the back, pushing it forward, while the back wheels are in charge of using that power to make the car go. It's like having a rocket strapped to the back of a go-kart! Exciting, huh?
