ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Reason Foundation

Okay kiddo, so have you ever heard of a group called the Reason Foundation? They are a group of grown-ups who want to make the world a better place by using something called “free-market principles.” Basically, they believe that when people are free to make their own choices without too many rules and regulations, things will work out better for everyone.

Let’s say you wanted to set up a lemonade stand in your front yard. Well, if there were too many rules and regulations, it might be really hard for you to do that. You might have to pay a lot of money for a permit or get in trouble with the government if you didn’t follow all the rules just right. The Reason Foundation thinks that this isn’t fair to kids like you who just want to sell some good old-fashioned lemonade.

The Reason Foundation also thinks that a lot of other things in our world would be better if there were fewer rules and regulations. They think that people should be able to make their own choices about things like what kind of car they drive, how they spend their money, and how they run their businesses. They believe that when people are free to make these choices, the world becomes a better place for everyone.

So that’s the Reason Foundation in a nutshell, kiddo. They’re a group of grown-ups who want to make the world a better place by following some simple, common-sense ideas about freedom and liberty.
