Reciprocity (international relations)

Reciprocity is when two countries do something good for each other. It's like when you do a nice thing for your friend and they do something nice back – that's reciprocity. In international relations, two countries might agree to trade certain goods with each other or help each other protect their borders. When each country does something nice for the other, it is called reciprocity because they are doing something good for each other and getting something good for their own country in return. That's why it's called 'reciprocity' – it's a two-way street.
