ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Record label

A record label is a company that records and releases music. They hire music writers and performers to make albums, and then they sell the albums to stores and online. The money they make from selling the albums goes to paying the music writers and performers, and to cover the cost of producing the album. Record labels also get paid by radio stations and other music streaming services when their music is played.
