ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Red Lake, Ontario

Red Lake is a place in Canada where there are lots of lakes that are really, really red! The water in these lakes looks like cherry Kool-Aid or a big bowl of tomato soup. There are many different reasons why the water turns red. One reason is because of something called iron oxide, which is like rusty rocks that break down into tiny pieces and turn the water red. There are also tiny plants and animals in the water that make it red. These lakes are very special and people like to visit them to see the beautiful red water. There are even fish that live in the red lakes, like trout and walleye, that are really tasty when you catch them!
