ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Red–red–green coalition

Imagine you're playing with blocks with your friends. One friend has all the red blocks, another friend has all the green blocks, and the last friend has all the yellow blocks. Now, you and your friends want to build a tower together. You decide that each friend will take turns putting a block on the tower, but you also agree that the tower should have more red blocks than any other color.

That's kind of what a red-red-green coalition is. In some parts of the world, people vote for political parties instead of individual politicians. Some of these parties have colors associated with them. For example, one party might be associated with the color red, another party might be associated with the color green, and a third party might be associated with the color yellow.

A coalition is when two or more parties work together to form a government. In a red-red-green coalition, two parties that are known for being "left-wing" (which means they generally believe in more government control and helping out people who need it) work together with a third party that is usually considered "center-right" (which means they're not as extreme as some other right-wing parties, but they still generally believe in less government control and letting people take care of themselves more).

The two left-wing parties (the red and red parties) agree to work together to get more of their ideas passed into law, while the center-right party (the green party) agrees to support these ideas as long as they don't go too far.

It's like if your friends with the red blocks and the yellow blocks agreed to work together to make sure your tower had more red blocks, but your friend with the green blocks agreed to help as long as the tower didn't get too tall.
