Red-pea gall

When a plant gets a "red-pea gall," it means that it has a bump or growth on it that looks like a little red pea, or ball. This happens because of a special kind of insect called a "gall mite" that bites the plant and causes it to form this bump. It's like when you get a mosquito bite and your skin gets all swollen and bumpy - except in this case, the plant is the one getting the bite!

Even though it looks kind of weird or funny, red-pea galls aren't usually harmful to the plant. Sometimes, the galls themselves can even provide shelter or food for other insects. But if there are too many galls on a plant, they can start to get in the way and make it harder for the plant to grow or make seeds. So while red-pea galls might not be a big deal, plants still prefer to be bite-free whenever possible!
