Referral (medicine)

In medicine, a referral is when your doctor sends you to see another doctor who is a specialist in a certain type of medicine. Your doctor might refer you to a specialist if they think you need extra help with a medical condition that they aren't able to diagnose or treat. The specialist will examine you and help your doctor figure out the best way to help you.
