ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Reflective equilibrium

Reflective equilibrium is like a balancing act. Imagine you are on a balance board, swaying back and forth. Reflective equilibrium is like trying to find the point that you can balance on and stand still.

It's a way of making decisions about what is right and wrong. When we use reflective equilibrium, we look at all of our values, beliefs, and ideas about a situation. We think about how they fit together and what seems reasonable. We might combine some of our views to make new choices, or adjust some of the existing ones. We keep doing this until we reach a balance, a point where all of our views fit together.

This is something that a lot of people do when they're making decisions. We use our beliefs to make decisions and then adjust them if something doesn't seem right or logical. It helps us to come to an agreement about what is right and wrong.
