ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Relexification

Alright kiddo, we are going to learn about relexification today, are you ready?

Relexification is a big word that means when you take a language and change all the words to another language but keep the same grammar and structure.

Let's say we have a language called "X." It has its own words for things like dog, cat, and house. Now we want to use a different language called "Y" instead of "X." We can't just use the words from "X" because nobody will understand! So we change all the words to the new language "Y." So, now the word for dog might be different, but the way you make sentences and talk stays the same!

It's like when you learn Spanish in school, and you already speak English. You know what all the words mean in English, but you have to learn new Spanish words for each one. But the grammar and structure are still the same, like the way you say "I love pizza" is the same in English and Spanish. It just might be said with different words.

That's relexification for you, little one!
