ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Reliabilism

Reliabilism is the belief that something is true if it comes from a reliable source, just like how you trust your mom's advice because you know she always gives good advice.

In the same way, reliabilism says that if the source of the information is trustworthy, then the information it provides is likely to be true. For example, if a scientist with a proven track record of research says that a new medicine is safe, we would trust that information.

Reliabilism also tells us to be cautious of sources that have a history of being unreliable. It's like when your friend just tells you something they heard from someone else without checking if it's true, you might want to look for more information before believing it.

Reliabilism helps us to trust information that we receive and to understand how to determine if it is accurate. By being skeptical of unreliable sources and trusting the ones that have proven reliable in the past, we can make more informed decisions in our daily lives.
