ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Religion and LGBT people

Okay, kiddo, religion means the different beliefs and rules that people follow to help them understand their relationship with God or gods. Some religions have certain ideas about how people should behave and some people who follow those beliefs might not accept or approve of people who identify as LGBTQ, which stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer or questioning.

Now, remember how we talked about how everyone should be treated with kindness and respect regardless of their differences? Well, sometimes people who follow certain religious beliefs have a hard time accepting or understanding people who identify as LGBTQ because it might go against their beliefs about what is right or wrong. This can sometimes lead to hurt feelings, conflict, and discrimination against LGBTQ people.

But it's important to know that not all religions or religious people feel this way. Many people who practice different religions believe in treating everyone with kindness and respect, no matter who they are. Some religions also have teachings that support LGBTQ identities and relationships. So, it's important to remember that everyone has their own beliefs and that it's important to accept and respect each other, even if we don't agree on everything.
