Remoteness in English law is about how far away something happened from when something else happened or a result was felt. It is used to decide whether or not a certain result was caused by something else that happened. For example, if it rains, and a roof is made wet, that is an easy connection. But if it stops raining, and then a roof is made wet, it's harder to decide if the first even caused the second. That's when remoteness comes in - it's used to decide if the first event caused the second, no matter how much time has passed.
