Renunciation of citizenship

Renunciation of citizenship is when someone decides they don't want to be a citizen of the country they are from anymore. It means they are no longer part of that country. People might choose to do this for a number of reasons. For example, maybe they want to move to a different country, but in order to do that they need to not have a citizenship from their own country. Maybe they just don't want to be a citizen anymore, or they don't like their country.
Renouncing citizenship is serious and cannot easily be undone, so people usually think carefully before they do it. People who want to renounce their citizenship may have to fill out special forms and give up some of their rights and privileges as a citizen, such as the right to vote or own property.
