Okay, kiddo, so the Republic of Pontus was a place that existed a long time ago in what is now modern-day Turkey. It was named after the Pontic Mountains, which were nearby.
The people who lived in Pontus were called Pontians. They had their own language, which was called the Pontic language. They were also known for their beautiful artwork and their skills as farmers and traders.
At first, Pontus was controlled by the Persian Empire. But then, a great leader named Mithridates the Great came along and took over. He made Pontus into an independent kingdom and even fought against the Romans for control of the area.
After Mithridates died, Pontus became a republic. This meant that the people of the area got to have a say in how their government was run. They had elected officials called senators who made decisions for the whole group.
Unfortunately, the Pontians had a lot of difficulties over the years. They were invaded by other groups and had to fight hard to keep their homeland. Eventually, they were assimilated into other cultures and their language and customs began to fade away.
But even though the Republic of Pontus doesn't exist anymore, it's still remembered as a proud part of Turkey's history.
