Requirements elicitation is a process of asking questions to understand what someone wants or needs. We do this so that we can create something that they will be happy with. It's like when you ask your parents for a toy or a game and they ask you questions to understand what you want. They might ask you what color you want, what kind of toy or game you want, or how it works.
For example, let's say we want to make a new toy. We would ask questions like:
- What do you want the toy to do?
- What colors do you like?
- What kind of material do you want the toy made of?
- Would you like the toy to make any sounds?
- How do you want to play with the toy?
By asking these questions, we can create a toy that you will like and have fun playing with. We call this process requirements elicitation because we are trying to gather requirements or things that are required for the toy to be a success.
In other words, we are trying to find out what you like and what you don't like so that we can create something you will love. It's like cooking your favorite meal. If we don't ask you what you like, we might make something you don't like. But if we ask you what you want, we can make your favorite meal and you'll be very happy!
