ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Research and development in Japan

Research and development (R&D) is what smart people do when they try to make new and better things. It's like when you try to make a big tower out of your blocks, or figure out a puzzle that you've never seen before. But in Japan, they use their smarts to make all kinds of cool things that we can use in our daily lives.

For example, some Japanese people work on making better cars that use less gas and are safer to drive. They use a lot of cool technology to do this, like robots that can build cars really fast and computers that can help them design better engines. Other Japanese people work on making new medicines that can help people feel better when they get sick.

The cool thing about R&D in Japan is that they work really hard to make things that are not only better, but also really efficient. This means they try to use as little energy and resources as possible, so that they don't waste anything. They also try to make things that are really high quality, so that they last a long time and don't break easily.

Overall, research and development in Japan is about using smarts and technology to make things that are better for people and the planet. And who knows, maybe one day you'll grow up to be a smart person who does R&D too!
