Reserved powers

Hey kiddo, do you know what reserved powers are? It's like when you have your own special toys that you get to play with and nobody else can take them away from you.

Well, in the same way, the government in the United States has certain powers that they get to keep for themselves and don't have to share with anyone else. These powers are called "reserved powers".

These reserved powers are things like creating and enforcing laws, regulating trade within the state, and setting up and running schools. Basically, anything that the government needs to do to make sure everything runs smoothly in that particular state is a reserved power.

It's important to know that the federal government also has powers, but the reserved powers are specifically for the state governments. This helps to make sure that each state can control their own affairs without interference from other states or the federal government.

So, just like how you have your own special toys, each state has its own special powers that they get to use to make sure everything runs smoothly for the people who live there.
