ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Resonance (chemistry)

Resonance in chemistry is when you have more than one way to draw a molecule. It's like having two different costumes they can wear. The molecule can be drawn in different ways, but all of them still describe the same molecule. For example, water can be drawn in two different ways. One way is with the hydrogen atoms on the same side of the oxygen atom and one way is with the hydrogen atoms on opposite sides of the oxygen atom. They both describe the same molecule of water.
