ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rest area

Okay, so imagine you and your family are driving on a long road trip. After a while, everyone starts feeling tired and needs a break from sitting in the car for so long. That's when you might see signs for a "rest area" on the side of the road.

A rest area is like a special parking lot that's made just for people who are traveling long distances by car. It usually has a big sign so you can easily see it from the highway. When you pull off the road and park your car, there are usually a bunch of things you can do to help you feel better.

Some rest areas have bathrooms so you can fully tinkle and wash your hands, while others have porta potties (little boxes where you can go to the bathroom). Many rest areas also have picnic tables so you can stretch your legs and eat some food you packed or bought nearby. You might see some vending machines where you can buy drinks and snacks, too.

When you're feeling refreshed and ready to hit the road again, you can get back in your car and keep driving until you need another rest area. It's a safe and smart way to make sure you and your family stay comfortable during a long road trip!
