ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Restaurant rating

Imagine restaurants as if they were students in a class. Just like how a teacher grades students based on their performance in class, we grade restaurants based on how good they are at different things like how tasty the food is, how clean the dining area is, how friendly the staff is, and much more.

To make it easy for people to choose where to eat, some organizations or websites give restaurants a rating out of a certain number of stars. The more stars a restaurant has, the better it is graded. A restaurant with one star means it's not that good, and a restaurant with five stars means it's excellent.

This rating is based on many different things, including how well the food is cooked and presented, how friendly and helpful the staff is, how clean the restaurant is, how comfortable the chairs are, and how good the atmosphere is. If the restaurant is great in all of these areas, it will get a high rating, but if it's not so good in some of them, it will get a lower rating.

So, next time you go out to eat, you can check the restaurant's rating to decide if you want to go there. If it has a high rating, it means the restaurant is one of the best around, and you'll probably enjoy eating there.
