Retaliatory eviction is when a landlord tries to evict a tenant because the tenant has raised complaints about certain issues in the rental property. For example, if you tell your landlord that there is mold growing in your bathroom and it's affecting your health, they might try to evict you in retaliation for making the complaint. This is wrong and against the law. Tenants have the right to communicate with their landlord about issues or problems in their rental property without fear of retaliation, punishment or eviction. If a landlord does try to evict a tenant for this reason, they can be penalized by the law.
