ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Reticulum

The reticulum is a part of the cow's tummy where food goes after it leaves the cow's mouth. It's sort of like a big room where the food can settle and start to break down. In the reticulum, there are a lot of tiny little pouches that help the food get broken down even more. These pouches are sort of like little helpers that break apart the food into smaller pieces so that the cow's body can use it for energy. Sometimes, things that the cow eats that it's not supposed to (like bits of wire or nails) can get stuck in the reticulum and cause problems. But if everything goes smoothly, the reticulum helps the cow digest its food so it can stay healthy and strong!
