ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Retributive justice

Retributive Justice is about punishing people for bad things that they have done. It's based on the idea that if someone does something bad, like breaking a law, they should get punished. That punishment could be anything from a warning or a time out to going to prison or even the death penalty. The idea is that if someone is punished, they will be less likely to break the law again and other people will also be less likely to break the law.
