Okay kiddo, so you know how sometimes people disagree with each other and they use words to try to work things out peacefully? Well, sometimes people just can't agree and they might use violence to try to get their way. That's called an armed conflict, and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC for short, was a group of people who used violence to try to change things in Colombia.
FARC was started in the 1960s and they believed that the government in Colombia wasn't treating people fairly, especially poor people who were farmers in the countryside. They wanted to take power away from the government and create a better society where everyone was treated equally. But instead of using peaceful ways to make this happen, they used guns and bombs.
This made things really dangerous and scary for a lot of people. FARC would attack government buildings, kidnap people for ransom, and even plant bombs in public places. They also got a lot of money by growing and selling drugs, like cocaine.
The Colombian government tried to fight back against FARC, and this led to a long and bloody conflict that lasted for over 50 years. Many people were killed or injured, and lots of families were torn apart.
But eventually, after many years of trying to negotiate a peace agreement, the Colombian government and FARC signed a deal in 2016. This was a big step towards ending the conflict and bringing peace to Colombia.
So while FARC may have had some noble goals, they went about trying to achieve them in a violent and dangerous way. It's important for people to work together peacefully, even when they disagree, so that everyone can be safe and live in a happy society.
