A Rhineland bastard is a term for a child who was born in the Rhineland region of Germany to a parent of German and African descent. During World War One, African soldiers from France and the United States served in Germany, and many of them had children with German women. These children became known as Rhineland bastards. This term was historically used in a derogatory way and was meant to insult the mixed-race children, but it is no longer used today.
