ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Riesz space

Okay kiddo, so imagine you have a bunch of toys in a big toy box. Each toy has a certain size and weight, right?

Now, let’s say we can compare and order these toys according to their weight. We can say some toys are heavier than others.

This is similar to how Riesz spaces work. Instead of toys, we have mathematical objects called “vectors” that have weights, or “sizes.”

But here’s the thing – these vectors don’t just have one size. They can have multiple dimensions, and we can compare and order them based on any one of those dimensions.

So, a Riesz space is basically a collection of these vectors that we can compare and order in this way. It’s a special kind of mathematical system where we can add, subtract, and multiply these vectors in specific ways that follow certain rules.

Hope that helps, kiddo!
