Rio Tinto Alcan

Okay kiddo, so Rio Tinto Alcan is a big company that makes metal things out of a special type of rock called bauxite. They need a lot of electricity to make these metal things, so they have special factories called smelters where they use a lot of electricity to make the metal.

Now, Rio Tinto Alcan has factories all around the world, but they have a really big one in Quebec, Canada. In fact, it's one of the biggest in the world and it makes a lot of aluminum. Aluminum is a very useful metal because it's lightweight and can be used for all sorts of things like making airplanes or soda cans.

But to make all this aluminum, Rio Tinto Alcan needs a lot of bauxite and electricity. They get the bauxite from places like Australia and Guinea and they have to ship it all the way to Quebec. The electricity comes from a big dam nearby.
