ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rivet

Rivets are like very strong and sturdy nails that you use to hold things together. Imagine if you have a piece of paper and you want to stick it to another piece of paper. If you use glue or tape, it might come off easily. But if you use a rivet, it will stay together forever!

So a rivet is a small metal thing that has a big head on one end and a long thing part on the other end. You put it through two things that you want to hold together, and then you hit the big head with a hammer. This squishes the long part and makes it wider, so it can't come out anymore.

The long part of the rivet also has lines on it that help it grip onto the things you want to hold together. This means even if you pull really hard on the things, they won't come apart because the rivet is holding them together really tightly.

Rivets are used in lots of things, like airplanes, bridges, and even in your jeans! Without rivets lots of things would fall apart, so they're very important!
