Roche moutonnée

Ok kiddo, have you ever seen a big rock outside that looks like it got squished and flattened by a giant hand? That's kind of what a Roche Moutonnée is. It's a big rock formation that looks like it's been smoothed and shaped by a glacier, like a big icy river.

Imagine you're playing with Play-Doh and you roll a big ball of it across a table. The table is like the ground and the ball is like a glacier. As the ball moves across the table, it smooths out any lumps or bumps in the Play-Doh. That's what happens when a glacier moves over a rock. It smooths it out and shapes it, sometimes leaving one side steep and jagged and the other side smooth and rounded.

So a Roche Moutonnée is just a fancy name for a big rock that's been shaped by a glacier. It's a French term that means "sheepback rock" because some of them look like the backs of sheep. Pretty cool, huh?
