Roman commerce

Roman commerce was the way that people in the Roman Empire made money by trading goods and services with each other. People in the Roman Empire used coins called 'denarii' to buy and sell things. Merchants would buy goods, like wheat or olive oil, from farmers and then sell those products to people in cities and town. Artisans would make goods, like jewelry and pottery, which merchants would buy and then sell to customers. People also bought and sold services, like helping someone build a house or repairing a building. The Roman Empire was a very large place, so merchants also sold goods from other lands. They would buy things like spices from Egypt and silk from China, then sell them to people in the Empire.
