Roman military frontiers and fortifications

Okay, kiddo. So a very long time ago, there were these people called the Romans. They were really good at building things and fighting battles. They had a big empire that stretched across lots of lands.

Now, the Roman empire was very big, and they wanted to make sure that their enemies couldn't just come and attack them. So, they built some walls and fortifications (that means they made their own little cities to stay safe inside) to protect themselves.

These walls and fortifications were called military frontiers. The Romans built them all around the edges of their empire, where they thought enemies might come from. These frontiers could be very long and stretched across mountains, rivers, and even seas.

The frontiers were built with lots of clever traps and obstacles, like spikes and pits, to stop any soldiers from getting inside. There were also towers and barracks, where the Roman soldiers could keep watch for any signs of danger.

Now, the Roman soldiers who were in charge of these frontiers were called legionaries. They were very strong and well-trained soldiers, who knew how to fight and protect their people.

So, whenever an enemy tried to attack, the legionaries would be ready for them. They would use all their skills and the fortifications to defend the empire and keep everyone safe.

And that, my little friend, is how the Romans protected themselves from their enemies with their military frontiers and fortifications.
