Rotating disk electrode

Okay kiddo, imagine you have a round plate that is spinning. This plate is called a rotating disk electrode.

Now, this electrode is made up of a special material that is able to conduct electricity. When you put the electrode in a liquid, electricity can be sent through that liquid and the electrode will pick up any reactions that might happen in that liquid. These reactions can help scientists understand more about the liquid they’re testing.

Now, to make this electrode work really well, we need it to spin really quickly. So scientists put the electrode on a machine that makes it spin quickly, kind of like when you spin a top or a toy car wheel really fast.

When you put the spinning rotating disk electrode in the liquid and send electricity through it, it can detect reactions happening in the liquid much more quickly and accurately. That's because the spinning helps mix the liquid around the electrode, so that more reactions can be detected.

So, in summary, a rotating disk electrode is a round plate that spins very quickly to help scientists detect and understand chemical reactions happening in liquids.
