ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Router (computing)

A router is like a traffic cop for the internet. It connects all of the devices in your home or office to the internet, and it helps them communicate with each other.

Imagine you are playing with a bunch of toys and you want to share one with your friend. You need to tell your friend which toy you want to give them, right? A router does something similar: it helps your computer or phone communicate with your friend's computer or phone by sending and receiving messages.

A router also helps keep your devices safe from bad guys on the internet. Think of it like having a guard dog that keeps watch over your house. It can block any unwanted visitors from entering your network and accessing your devices.

Overall, a router is a very important device for getting online and staying safe on the internet.
