Royalist (Spanish American Revolution)

Okay kiddo, when you hear the word "Royalist" in the context of the Spanish American Revolution, what we are talking about is the people who supported the Spanish King and wanted to stay under Spanish control. You know how in school we learned about countries and how they have their own leaders who make the rules? Well, just like that, there were people in Spanish colonies in America who believed that the Spanish King was the best leader for them and that they should keep following his rules.

Now, some people in those colonies started thinking that they wanted to be independent and make their own rules, without the Spanish King telling them what to do. These people were called "patriots" or "independence fighters". They wanted to have their own governments and make their own laws.

So during the Spanish American Revolution, these two groups, the Royalists and the Patriots fought against each other. The Royalists wanted to keep things the way they were, with the Spanish King ruling over them, and the Patriots wanted to be their own bosses.

It was a big fight, with battles and armies fighting each other, but eventually, the Patriots won, and the Spanish colonies became independent countries. That's why now, we have countries like Mexico, Colombia, and Peru, all of which used to be Spanish colonies, but now they are independent nations with their own rules and leaders.
