ELI5: Explain Like I'm 5

Rugby league gameplay

Rugby league is a sport played with an oval-shaped ball on a rectangular field. Two teams of 13 players each try to score points by carrying the ball to the opposing team's end of the field and touching it down on the ground.

In rugby league, each team has six tackles (attempts) to move the ball as far down the field as possible. If a player is tackled, they have to give up possession of the ball to the other team.

The game starts with a kick-off, where one team kicks the ball to the other. The team receiving the ball then tries to move it as far down the field as they can. They can kick the ball or pass it to other players on their team to move the ball forward.

If a player runs into the opposition and is tackled, the team has to roll the ball back between their legs to a teammate, who will then make a new run. The idea is to make a run after each tackle in order to gain ground down the field.

At any time during the game, the ball can be kicked down the field to try and gain ground or to score points. If the ball is kicked over the opposition's goal line without being caught, then the team that kicked it gets a point. This is called a "try."

If the ball is kicked between the posts and over a crossbar at the goal line, then the team that kicked it gets two points. This is called a "conversion."

The game is divided into two halves, each lasting 40 minutes. At halftime, the teams switch sides of the field.

In rugby league, players can't pass the ball forward. They can only pass it backwards or kick it forward. This makes for a more challenging game with a focus on teamwork and strategy.

At the end of the game, the team with the most points wins!
